Electrical Harnesses with E3.cable, E3.topology and E3.formboard

Written by André Luiz Maculan de Oliveira | Jun 18, 2020

E3.series is modular software that has segmented features to continuously complement project documentation. With that in mind, three modules will be presented that can be implemented continuously and work together to make the documentation process even more robust, fast and reliable.

Carrying out a complete project seeks to meet several needs, such as:

  • The preparation of electrical documentation, which strictly specifies each of the connections, presenting the wires, connectors, splices, terminals, seals and other representations relevant to the process.
  • Files for use in maintenance, which are documentation that must often guide the technician on the location of the components and the passage of the wire segments of the harnesses inside the vehicle.
  • The documentation for the production, which must often meet the needs of the assembler in the construction of the harness, for that it must present connection tables of each connector and connection, as well as the corrugated, the retractable term, the strips and the lengths of each segment and wire.

Knowing some of the needs of the wiring harness design processes, we chose to present the integration between E3.cable, E3.topology and E3.formboard.

It is important to emphasize that through the integration between the modules, the projects and the modifications carried out happen bilaterally in each type of project. In other words, if the schematic is modified, the topology and whip representation will be automatically updated and vice versa, either in E3.cable, E3.topology or E3.formboard.

Electrical Documentation

Using E3.cable it is possible to reduce design time and errors when making electrical connections directly.

Each defined connection allows the automatic choice of terminals and sealing seals valid for each connector, respecting the mechanical restrictions of wire section and wire protection diameter.

If any of these quantities is above or below the application limits, the software generates an alert and automatically blocks the connection error.

This module aims to meet the documentation needs of the electrical specifications of the harnesses.

E3.cable also allows the use of multiple views, be it multi-line or single-line from a connection pin, it also manages block hierarchies, valid connector part and other important functionalities.

Maintenance Documentation

Using E3.topology it is possible to reduce the design time when defining the shape of the wiring harness.

It also allows you to order the construction of each harness in an organized and independent way from the named harness objects within the project.

In addition, it often meets the need for documentation for use by the maintenance and field staff.

Within E3.topology it is possible to use blocks to insert installation spaces in the project.

This functionality allows you to position the peripheral locations such as Fuse Box, Flashlights, Earth Connection Bars, Vehicle Panel, Control and Battery in a 2D view of the vehicle. This makes it easier for the user to recognize where the electrical harnesses that pass within the physical structure of the vehicle should be placed.

Within each installation space, it is possible to easily insert the connectors that will be used for the electrical connections of the devices and that are within each of the defined installation locations.

E3.topology also allows the management of each of the existing items within the topology sheet, either block or connector.

In addition, it allows you to automatically manage and name each of the electrical harnesses with the respective wires used in their segments.

The named harnesses store the electrical information of the wires, but also the connectors used in the electrical connections. Therefore, from the existing named harness, it is possible to insert the connectors for the independent manufacture of each of the electrical harnesses using the E3.formboard. Thus maintaining an organization in the construction of the whip.

Manufacturing Documentation

E3.formboard is a complete solution for the digital manufacture of harnesses in any sheet size with one or more manufacturing drawings in the same project.

The E3.formboard drawings provide a view of cables and harnesses, as defined in the schematic and / or topographic diagram. They comprise electrical and non-electrical components, including the placement of connectors, wire segments, protective covers, clips, tags and others.

It also performs the automatic calculation of wire lengths and segment diameters automatically, for this it uses a packaging algorithm to calculate the external diameter of the harness segments.

It allows working with dynamic and configurable connector tables to display pin, wire, cable, signal, indicator, color and target information.

E3.series presents solutions for different demands and therefore has application options, where companies can choose to purchase the tools they want or those that apply to the existing or planned internal process.

Therefore, we clarify that the possibilities for using the solutions presented are:

  • E3.cable
  • E3.cable + E3.formboard
  • E3.cable + E3.topology
  • E3.cable + E3.topology + E3.formboard
