This article will give an overview of the new functionality within the new E3.series 2015 program.

The Overall General Enhancements

Generating the Signal Names Automatically

Whenever a new signal is created in a project, the signal name can be automatically generated based on the sheet and grid location, and the attributes of the device pin. The automatic generation can be switched on and off by the user and the signal tree shows the current signal settings using colors.

  • Allows signal naming generation according to signal format
    • Defining format with right clicking of the mouse in the signal tree on connecting lines.

  • Fixing the text at any position with the associated specifications

  • There is color coded identification provided in the signal tree for the specific format.

o    Blue - For Active

o    Green - For Inactive

o    Black - Without Format

Sorting and Structuring the Variant/Options Tree

E3.Series is growing due to the demand of industry demanding the need to handle options and variants. The growing number of options and variants offered for the automotive, industrial machinery, and equipment sectors are requiring additional management functions just for schematic are becoming necessary.

Options can be sorted into ascending or descending order, as well as grouped by option packages and configurations. Structuring the variant/option tree by arranging options below folders with user-defined names enables the user to assign, re-assign, find, and structure options according to their intended use.

New Dimensional Standards

Dimensions can now be defined with a single reference to describe an entire group of dimensions comprising several dimensions in one line. These running dimensions are definable in several directions. Running dimensions provide the following:

  • Single referencing for several intervals
  • Multiple dimensions in a single row
  • Multi-directional definability

Improvements in Core Management

Defining and changing core connections is now easily accomplished by selecting source and destination pins. This saves a large amount of time when re-assigning core connections. Additionally, the wire routes of a specific signal can be manually optimized when reordering existing connections using the drag and drop feature.

Core management improvement as includes the following:

  • Pin selection influenced based on user defined settings
    • User selected pins only
    • Using signal-equivalent pins
    • Using name-equivalent pins
    • Using pins of original symbols

  • Toolbar started commands
  • Selecting desired pins and their destination pins

New Cabling Table

New cabling tables simplify the task of editing cable connections. The table representation also helps identify unconnected or partially connected cable connections. Manufacturing information can be assigned to the cables in the tabular overview. The cabling table offers a range of functionality including:

  • Search using wildcards
  • Filter columns
  • Connect/delete cables
  • Swap conductors
  • Various “Jump to” commands
    • To all objects associated with the connection
  • Change attributes
  • Add new columns
  • Mark non-cable connections to be ignored
    • New setting: Display ignored connect lines in alternative color

The New Interface Module

E3.PLCBridge

E3.PLCBridge allows standardized communication between E3.Series and various PLC programming tools. The initial data transfer, as well as the powerful update functionality, shows the currently used components, PLC addresses, comments, and I/O settings. The engineer receives an overview of the changes made, along with the old and new contents, and can decide which field should be updated.

Enhanced Support for 3D Design with E3.Panel

3D View in E3.Panel and New Toolbar

Multidirectional orientation is available, as well as isometric and diametric views. With one click the user can switch the orientation of the panel design in 3D. New toolbar allows for views from the following:

  • Top
  • Bottom
  • Front
  • Back
  • Left
  • Right
  • Isometric
  • Dimetric
  • Animate

Transparency and Visibility in 3D with E3.Panel

Transparency or invisibility can be made with a single mouse click on objects, making the 3D environment much easier to work within. Features include:

  • Collision checks with transparent and invisible objects
  • Command execution can be completed on objects in the uppermost level
  • Transparent view of parts is readily available in panel design, but transparent parts are ignored during work (With the exception of collision checks)

Looking Towards The Future

E3.Series has made significant improvements on its overall functionality in order to make their software more efficient for the everyday electrical engineer. E3.Series 2015 builds upon the program to alleviate the pain of manual design and provide the user with efficient and effective tools.

This functional makes working with complex 3D assemblies much easier as walls or components can be faded out when large assemblies are being designed.

Commands are available such as:

  • Visibility with…&...Optionally transparent or invisible with…
    • Mounted devices, except selected devices, and except selected and mounted devices
  • Only the relevant commands displayed for the selected object

Multiple 2D Views for Manufacturing Drawings

In E3.Panel 3D design can be used to create 2D manufacturing drawings of every side of the cabinet. The 2D projection of the 3D design is created as an intelligent view. All modifications made in the 2D projection are reflected in 3D, and vice versa.

Easier Referencing in E3.Panel

Text nodes allow referencing between E3.Schematic and E3.Panel. “Reference to Panel” view shows all positions on which the model is displayed, while “Reference to Schematic” view shows position of all master symbols.

Transportation Sector Highlights

Enhanced Automotive Collaboration

Improving connectivity is now available between E3.Series and E3.HarnessAnalyzer, a powerful new collaboration tool for viewing and analyzing harness drawings in the standard HCV container data format, which combines KBL and SVG data.

The graphical view and the physical data model reflected in various tables are now linked together. The whole harness can be analyzed and check regarding of bundle size, wire routing, used assignment, weight, and cost.

Automatic Wiring Improvements

E3.Wiring Diagram Generator is used for automatic generation of wiring diagrams that can create standardized service documentation using engineering data. More readable diagrams are now created and the generator is able to sort devices and pins according to their connections and prevent unnecessary crossing throughout the diagrams. The new separate routing grid and spacing definitions minimize manual finishing off of drawings. Focuses on improving the routing results:

  • More easily readable plan generation
    • Routing grid: Defines the distance between connections
    • Defines the distance up to the first direction change, and can be set for every sheet margin
    • Enhancement to the pin sorting: From start to destination pin

Enhanced Manufacturing Support

Finishing designs in E3.Series contain all the necessary manufacturing information to build cabinet or wire harness. In E3.Series 2015 standard manufacturing outputs have been improved. The interfaces to strip, cut, and mark machines and to drill and milling machines now contain additional information, such as data outputs for automatic bundling and labeling or wires, as well as the wire-end treatment.
