E3.Cable: The Robust Solution for Creating and Documenting Cables and Harnesses

Written by André Luiz Maculan de Oliveira | Jul 14, 2020

E3.cable is the complete solution for cabling projects. With it , it is possible to create wiring, harnesses, cables and cooling systems for segments of the automotive industry, special vehicles and cabling for factories and machinery. It is a module of the E3.series software completely integrated with the E3.schematic version, having all its functionality.

Its intelligent block functionality allows engineers and designers to quickly represent dynamic equipment and can use hierarchical functionality with a top-down or bottom-up design approach. E3.cable also includes one of the most powerful features of E3.series: its ability to create multiple views of the same device for design and documentation purposes. Check out these and other features below.

Cable and Harness Design

With E3.cable, dynamic cabling creation is possible. The conductors brought from E3.series' vast component library are grouped together to form cables.

The twisted and shielded pair structure is easily added and automatically presented in the project documentation.

As an alternative, pre-defined cables can be used through the database.

Single and Multifilar Schematic

It is possible to view the connections on the design sheet from single-line and multi-line views. The connections of the same device represented in both ways are interconnected within E3, allowing changes made in either one to be updated automatically. When inserting the connectors, the connections are generated automatically, as well as detailing the wiring properties of each connection.

With the segment diameter functionality, it is possible to view the distribution of the wires and the minimum external diameter occupied by them in a part of the wiring harness or cable.

When adding wires with different properties, such as the section or outside diameter, it automatically organizes and calculates the wire layout within the segment, looking for the smallest possible diameter.

Multiple Views from the Same Device

Devices can be detailed in the schematic through different integrated views of the same component. Whether they are symbols of their pins separately, of the complete device or of the wire tables.

Changes made in any view of the project are automatically updated in all others.

Complete documentation on E3.cable

In addition, it is possible to generate the complete documentation with the cable manufacturing data, bringing information from / to, pin terminals, seals, wires and lengths.

Block Diagram

The dynamic blocks of E3.cable allow complete documentation and a rapid development of the interconnection scheme, where inputs and outputs of any system can be added through connectors. In addition, the higher level and / or location specifications of these blocks are automatically assigned to these connectors.

They can represent individual components (like PCBs), entire systems (like a central panel) or subsystems (like local units).

Block Hierarchy

The blocks also support the hierarchical structure, which allows the organization and dynamic documentation in the distribution of the project systems and subsystems. The connections and ports added to the blocks allow the transfer of the signal between levels.

Multiple levels are supported and it is possible to browse all project sheets to view and modify details of each part.

Integration with PCBs

The blocks can be integrated directly with PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards). The PCB system's signal and connector information is dynamically added to the blocks. A bidirectional interface can be created when there is an interconnection with the Zuken CR-8000 engineering design solution.

Documentation of sophisticated electrical designs of cables and highly complex harnesses is made easy with the E3.cable solution. Using this module, it is possible to achieve the development of projects in a logical and structured way, enabling the improvement of quality in the documentation and in the results obtained.
